Estate grown on our west side Paso Robles vineyard. The vines are deeply rooted in rugged
limestone hills exposed to sunshine and ocean influenced air; consistently producing exceptionally complex fruit.
Our
goal is to grow exceptional fruit on our 15 acre vineyard. We have 5 acres each of the following: Cabernet Sauvigon,
Zinfindel and Mourvedre. We also just planted a small amount of Viognier and Grenache Blanc.
We have registered English
Babydoll sheep as live "weed eaters" for use in the vineyard to reduce pesticide and tractor stress. They also add
much needed fertilizer and balance to our vineyard. They are the smallest breed of sheep and stand only 18 inches tall. We
believe that the sheep: enable the vineyard to look and be healthier; our family and workers to feel good and be safer; and
our wines that we produce to taste outstanding.
We sell a portion of each years harvest to very good winemakers who we
are very grateful to for helping us learn the process and necessary path to follow both as growers and winemakers.
We
are bonded and building up our wine supplies slowly. All of the grapes for our wines are grown on our vineyard and our wines
are produced by Oso Libre. We planted our Cabernet and Zinfandel vines in 2000 and our Mourvedre in 2004. For our
first wine we bottled 124 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon harvested in 2003 called "Quixotic Cabernet". A
combination of good advice, great fruit, reasonable weather, lots of mistakes and hard work and help from a very good
winemaker (Michael Barreto) created an outstanding red wine.
We now are bottling our 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon which has
been "in barrel" for over two years. All we have is 115 cases with 13.7% alcohol. Aromas of cherries and cassis
are centered around mature tannins with an acidity that stands up to rustic Mediterranean cuisine. The finish suggests subtle
notes of minerality and oak.
We also are bottling 440 cases of our "Rojo del Patron" red wine with 73% 2004
Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% 2005 Zinfandel. The alcohol is 13.5%. This unique blend is a representation of the distinct qualities
of our vineyard. The ripe fruit aromas are balanced by gentle sensations of tannins creating a smooth finish. This wine pairs
well with everyday dishes or can be savored on its own.
Finally we are now bottling 270 cases of our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon.
The alcohol is 13.8%. Aromas of cherries and berries are balanced by earthy accents of cedar and olives. The resulting flavor
marries the delicate qualities of chocolate and ripe tannins. This is a classic version of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape that
reasserts why it is known as the king of red wines.
We are small and always will be. Our vines and our wines get a lot
of attention as Linda and I are hands on with every aspect of this business.
We also are growing grass fed Angus beef
on our connected 65 acres of pastures and year round creek. They receive no hormones and they are healthy, happy and "shiny
black beautiful".
Over 75% of our electricity is supplied by the wind and the sun from our solar panels and our
electricity generating wind turbine. We hope to reach 100% and be grid free by 2010.
